Grouping of textile lots, denim or anything for that matter that needs to be sorted out and grouped on color and tone, is done by grouping software.

Depending on the requirements and needs of grouping different methods of grouping are employed.
Tapering
All batches are sorted in ascending or descending order of any color parameter like D E*, DA*,DB*, DC*, DH* etc.
Pass / Fail remarks for every lot is displayed if tolerances are given.
Single dimensional grouping
This is mainly required for socks. Sorting is done on parameter like color strength.
Multiple Standards Grouping
This is particularly useful for denims where you can have multiple standards which can be bluer or redder to various degrees.
All produced lots are checked as to which of standards they are closer and subsequently grouped.
Two dimensional grouping
This is a very powerful tool to group in absence of any standards.
Two critical parameters are selected from L*, a*, b*, C*, H*. For example a* and b* in case of denim. Grouping in different categories are done depending on the extremeties of a* and b* values within the lots.
555 shade sorting
This is three dimensional conventional grouping based on L* a* b* or L* c* h*. The grouping is with respect to an accepted standard. Batches are graded depending on the deviation of each individual parameter. Ideal match is graded 555.
